Department Chair (Tenured) Position

Appointment effective no later than September 1, 2012

The Department of Medical Technology at the University of Delaware invites nominations and applications for a department chair. We seek a visionary senior scientist with a vigorous research program and extramural funding who can provide strong, dynamic, and innovative leadership to advance excellence in research and teaching. Candidates must have an earned doctorate and be qualified for appointment at the associate or full professor level; post-doctoral experience is preferred. A proven record of externally funded research, commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and effective management and interpersonal skills are required. National certification in medical laboratory science (e.g., clinical chemistry, clinical immunohematology, clinical microbiology, and/or clinical hematology) is also required. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership in the development of a new interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The Department of Medical Technology (http://www.udel.edu/medtech/) includes 11 faculty and professionals and approximately 120 undergraduate student majors in a nationally accredited medical laboratory science program. The department has 27 clinical affiliates in the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Faculty members in the department are engaged in research in the areas of diabetes mellitus, cancer metastasis, immunity to infection, and nanomedicine. The department is part of the College of Health Sciences, a thriving academic unit of over 2000 students and approximately 100 faculty with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. The College also includes the departments of Behavioral Health and Nutrition, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, and Physical Therapy, and the School of Nursing. The College is currently transitioning to an exciting new collaborative clinical research complex on a recently acquired 272-acre tract of University property being developed as a Science and Technology campus in what is already one of the nation s leading life science regions. The College is partnering with several clinical institutions in the Delaware Health Sciences Alliance (http://www.delawarehsa.org/.) The DHSA institutions are aligning their resources to facilitate innovative collaborations among experts in medical practice, health economics and policy, population sciences, and public health, as well as the biomedical sciences and engineering.
